In Xanadu did Kubla Khan... 2

By mrswoolybill
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea...

I told the story of the ruined Banqueting Hall in Jesmond Dene on Monday.
For just twenty years this was the most prestigious social venue in Newcastle, and then it was abandoned.
The version is another view of the Hall.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

The Version even more steeped in mystery than the earlier one.

A very strong image and the way you allowed the light in the flowers to draw the eye works really. While allowing the mesh hold the background makes it all work so well. Great job.

With walls and towers were girdled round;
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

Coleridge and opium proved to be a very creative combination Smile
Very nice work Moira.

Like comparing apples and orange. The lead is my favorite, since black white flowers are always wonderful. V1 is better than yesterdays, and imparts more mystery. There is something about the flower at the grate that is an embodiment of this great poem.

The symbolism of the soft and delicate flowers prevented from further progress by the grill, like guests arriving to find the hall unexpectedly locked and abandoned

Where some things end or die, other things live. It gives me the feeling that it's waiting for someone or something to be released.
