Mayor Dianne Feinstein, flanked by her Fire and Police Chiefs, opens Japantown's Cherry Blossom Festival by leading a parade. She made history by being appointed to fill out the rest of assassinated Harvey Milk's term, becoming the first lady administrator of the city. She ran for governor soon and lost, but won a bid for senator, which she is today.
