Infra-red Test Shot

By BigCol
I sent my old 5D away to Protech Photographic for converting to infra-red photography and received it back this morning and I've been itching to give it a play all morning.
Of course what started out as the perfect day for IR photography has slowly been clouded over so it wasn't particularly brilliant conditions this lunch time for me to be trying my newly converted camera out, but I could wait no longer!
Using the camera is a doddle as Protech send it back to you ready to go, with the white balance manually set to provide optimum results. All I had to do was attach a lens and head off into the church.

Anyway, the images shown side by side above are the results of some very basic processing in ACR.
All I've done is added a curves Adjustment Layer to the image on the left and used the eye dropper to select the white, black and 'grey' points and then added a Black & White Adjustment Layer to turn it quickly into mono image.

When we get better skies I shall be out again to really put the camera through its paces.

By the way, for those of the geek persuasion out there, the strength of filter I've had the high pass filter replaced with is a 665nm one.

Both are splendid like a scene from a fairytale. A bold decision to convert such a wonderful camera. Hours of fun lie ahead I'm sure and I look forward to enjoying your work in the incarnation.
