OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
A second day of Monarch photos....we were visiting a friend in coastal Maine, Tenants Harbor...and his partner was a professional gardener...and the garden was full of pollinator flowers. There were lots of butterflies...as you will see, not just Monarchs. Last year, last summer...even with milkweed growing in our garden (and it is a serious and aggressive weed)...and pollinator flowers, we saw not many butterflies...and few, if any monarchs. I have seen figures that in some recent years, their count (in Mexico) has been down at times by
90&
.. Then they will bounce back a bit....but the overall pattern is very frightening. As Walt Knox said yesterday....the Canary in the Coal Mine....as the worldwide population of insects in general declines.
Think about this....are you getting as many dead bugs on your auto windshield in the summer as you used to. Scientists are calling this the Windshield Effect.
Many grateful thanks to Colleen (where life conditions in Australia are very difficult right now) and Glenn Conant for you UAs for my last set.
