Irene alone

By mrswoolybill
I included this as a version back a while ago and some people liked it.
The indomitable Irene has run the local Royal British Legion branch as long as anyone can remember, in spite of personal ups and downs and the efforts of top brass to downgrade the women's section.
She was watching school children performing in her honour.
And we got a full page spread in the local paper for this event, I'm adding a few of the pictures here. All have been cleared by the schools for publication.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Lovely capture, Moira. Yes it's shameful the way the Legion treated the Woman's Section. Little Common down the road had a 200 strong Woman's Section, far, far stronger than the men's.

Worthwhile not about clearance. A sad sign of the times in the UK.

a fine community event coverage, Moira, and v.1 and v.4 are my favs.. those kids are lovely ...
sadly, children photography hazards are high over here as well - and solely for the photographer .. Sad

Fine journalistic photography, Moira. Children make great subjects and it's a sad reflection of today's society that taking photos of them has become almost taboo.
Well done Irene for running an organisation that is a vital social service for many people.

Isn't sad you have to clear children's pictures with school before publishing? As an ex-Legion member, I can vouch for the friendship and help they can provide. In my case mostly the bowls, darts and golf competitions!! But there if needed. Fine set, Moira.

We are back after a very long day. Thanks to everyone who has called in here today, to Ian and Graham for adding their UAs and to John (sandwedge) for the GEA - a very pleasing bonus for the day!

My understanding is that the Women's Section was financially solvent, the Men were not. So the women were rolled into the men's section in order to clear their debts. And I have heard this from men as well as women members...
