Iron & Steel

By PaulMillar
Normaly I would do 2 things family day out and take a few shots,
but as this week has proved that the golden hours need to be looked at..........so I will nip out for few hours and back to spend day with my family..........job done.

NO,,,,,,got up after 2 hours sleep at 3.0am went out back, nice
clear sky a few clouds, brill lets jump in the car head to the
Forth Rail Bridge about 45 mins away........how it went all wrong.

Got ther still dark, started to set up, thinking if that sun breaks just through the centre of the bridge might get nice shot......

After 20mins FOG came in could not see a thing.........so hung around waiting to see if it lifted.......managed to grab this shot
just before fog came down again..........you can just see fog at top of bridge.

Did this as B&W because it was a very gray day.......best laid plans......

Thanks for looking..........

Paul.

Hope for the best, expect the worst! You might not have got the shot you envisioned, but you have come away with a pretty good mono composition.

Next time.....

Nice mono and appealing, well-balanced composition, Paul. Landscape photography is like fishing but you're always lured back in pursuit of the one that got away.

Sometimes you have to be lucky with the weather in photography Paul, your mono conversion works well here, good tonal range and excellent composition with the small boat placed perfectly in the frame, well worth the early rise for this one photograph. Your skills have improved greatly in a short space of time, Keep up the good work my friend, Bill.

A fine mono shot Paul.
Hope to get to the Ferry next week for some pics.
Have you been to Port Edgar at the other end of the Ferry ?
Plenty rust and grot there to be had !!

Can sympathise over the weather. Our CC meets on Wednesdays in summer months
but often the weather is awful we intended going to see the bridge last summer but it turned out
a poor night and not worth the journey from Houston,Renfs.
You did manage a good shot despite cloud.Good in mono.

This image made it worth it though. At least I thinks so, as I did not have to go stand in the cold. I just get to appreciate the results of your suffering.

Excellent conversion and presentation.

Not a total disaster Paul, i love this shot, fantastic composition and it definitely suits the mono with it being a grey start to the day for you.

Nice shot Smile

I say it was worth the effort. Really like how the fog is just touching the top of the bridge Smile Last year I drove all the way to the coast, about an hour or so, as it was a lovely sunny day, as soon as I got there the sun disappeared and it was really cold....like you say, best laid plans etc Grin

a very nostalgic postcard of everyone's favourite Scottish bridge !
the inclusion of the boat is just right.
