Iron overcast

By javam
The Avro Vulcan "Spirit of Great Britain" - XH558 displaying at the RIAT.

Iron overcast is the nickname the American's gave it, presumably because they have no word for aluminium. Tongue

I have not being following the XH558 saga very closely, but I think there was some mention of an engine failure which presumably accounts for the different look to the engine nacelles.

As always, thanks for looking.

Put everyone in the shade while passing overhead at an air show near Vancouver BC years ago. We in Canada had a different Avro once. TG

That's right Neil. In fact, a double engine failure. Oopps!
There is a story to it but I wouldn't talk about it on here I'm afraid.

A really great example of aeronautical photography, which has all the right ingredients, mixed up to produce such a great image.

Er hem! There were a couple of other reasons why it didn't fly actually. Engines being the main reason.
