Certainly get some peace and quiet there, Kath! 👍🏻 A well composed shot, l like how the walls zig-zag their way through the scene 😃

A feeling of desolation. Not a place to live when you're old and by yourself.
Works well in mono. Would like to see the winter hues as well.

Thank you Trev, Sandy and Gerwyn. It was taken in May several years ago and was a really bleak and misty day. They catch some very bad weather up there and I wouldn't want to be there in the snow! Think it drives home the harsh reality of hill farming.

Best wishes all,
Kath

i guess there's zero noise pollution in this area.. and imagine what this landscape would look like if it were blanketed by 2 feet of snow...
whatever... an excellent image, Kath.. fine tonal values too

Lovely mono of this rolling countryside, Kath. The buildings and dykes are an added bonus.

Gets the imagination going Kath, but after many grey damp days recently this would be a ‘nice view’ pic rather than a ‘like to live there’ one. Maybe when Tescos do aerial grocery deliveries 😃
Looks a magnificent rugged landscape, love the drystone walls too, Johnny NP just left rapidly, he’ll be back 🙂

Made me think abut Hannah Hauxwell - what an inspiring person she was!

A great image Kath, of a very rugged landscape!!
I can see how winter could complicate things there.

Among the many marvellous paintings by Victoria Crowe are a few centred around the late Jenny Armstrong, a shepherd in south east Scotland who led a similar life to HC. Photographers have much to learn from VC's portraits as she incorporates much symbolism from the subjects life.

This is my sort of place Cath. Great birding territory at certain times of the year.
A wonderful sense of isolation Kath, superb image.

Thank you all for seeing what I see in this bleak landscape and you're right Malc, very Hannah of the Dale's territory. She was more over towards Durham in the former North Riding, why ever did we lose those lovely county names? This is on the way towards the Eden Valley and Kirkby Stephen.

Thanks for the info Allistair, I'll take a look at the Victoria Crowe images. This image was close to another couple in my gallery, the sheep farmer, rounding up his sheep.

Thanks again everyone for your comments and clicks which are really encouraging.
