It's a Dragonfly... isn't it?

By Lillian
Not a clue... you know I don't do these fast moving flying creatures!

Even pushed the limits... hand held and 100-500mm lens

I just liked the colours,
and know someone will let me know what kind of Dragonfly it is
Version.. he had moved!

Have a good weekend

Lillian

pretty certain its a common Hawker Lillian,,

Excellent capture Lillian and very well timed as they don't stay still for long.
I would say a Common Hawker but not 100% certain.

Sorry but you are incorrect, among other things the "Nail" mark on S2 positively ID's this as a Migrant hawker, the Common hawker does not have this feature.

Very nice, Lillian, even though you don't often do these lovely small creatures, and I'm glad you've got an ID, and do appreciate the small important details involved in doing that.

Dragonfly alright they seem to land on dead plant material that makes them even more beautiful. Lovely images both. Debs

Just to confirm what Mike Young says, this is definitely a Migrant Hawker. Other key features include the short antehumral stripes and the brown costa (leading edge of the forewing). The commonest species over a wide area at this time of year

Two of the sharpest images I have seen of this type of insect: superb insect photography, and certainly a departure from your usual genres.
