It's That Tree Again

By Bee76
I've been wanting to get over to Benacre again for a while now but the weather's been just pants down this way at dawn for ages. Either that or the tide times haven't been right.

Anyway, this is my first outing with my new B+W 10 stop filter (I'm not rich enough to start splashing out on Lee filters just yet). I'm quite pleased with the results, however not so much about clumsily kicking over the tripod by accident and banging the front of the lens right onto a stone. I suppose I should be thankful that the filter was attached and only that was scratched rather than the lens.

Constructive feedback would be very much apppreciated.

Cheers,
Barney

A very simple and effective shot with great colours. I do think it is a good candidate to apply ROT so I have offered a mod with a slight crop. I also toned down the highlights to deepen the colours.
I hope you find this helpful and the mod is to your taste.

Thanks Chris, Phil and Frank.

Phil, I like your mod with the toned down highlights and appreciate your 'Rule of Thirds' comments. I considered a big crop but in the end felt more comfortable with a lot of ocean showing as this suits my tastes and, in my opinion, enhances the simplicity of the composition.

I must also say a big thanks to Paul Morgan and his processing dvd - available from his website. It has taught me a lot and I am now moving away from his workflow in places to adapt the processing for each context.

Cheers,
Barney

Fantastic. The iridescence on the water around the tree is breathtaking. A beautiful image.
