It's a nice enough image, Mark, but as you say, it's nothing special ( and you can add your own tag, with any wording you choose...I've been using 'holiday snaps' on mine for the last 2 weeks ), though people will now proceed to make the same glowingly unhelpful comments they always make, regardless...see above... for me it lacks focus/concentration, almost as though you're doing it on autopilot, going through the motions. And I don't think the way you've processed the mono suits the subject at all, with that very strong vignette, it cries out for a lighter more airy treatment. But V1 certainly isn't bad, and loads better than some of the things we see here, just not up to your standard.
All this is understandable because you're so preoccupied. What are other 70D owners doing re RAW files? How did you process this RAW file? I suppose you're using in-camera software. Is that inadequate? I never shoot in RAW anyway ( SHOCK!! HORROR!!! ), but I can appreciate your concern, and wish I could be of more help.

Mark, nice split on pov........I like the tone, will have a better look later on mac......I will have a look at Lightroom 5 later see if it has the 70d listed, I think Lightroom has a better control for raw than photo shop. Don't know if you use it. Like the angle of the boats against the horizon line. Can't see how long your exposure is, but can only thing that needs to be a very still day to capture boats in a longer exposure mate......keep at it early days.

Thanks all for your honesty, it doesn't sit well with me at all, but I can't figure out exactly why, so your comments are helping. It does need a closer point of interest, but I had to work with what was there at that time. Alan I use Aperture but it has it's limitations, hence photoshop, and yes you are spot on with being preoccupied, too much in the mind at the moment to be creative!
Thanks Paul for your info re Lightroom, I'll look forward to what you can find out.
Getting new kit is supposed to be fun, all I want to do is put it back in the box!

I think I can understand your dilemma but it's difficult to put a finger on what it is that does't quite gel for me too: perhaps the main consideration is having the horizon on the mid line.......sometimes that works OK, at others less so.
But a pleasant enough image, and one worth keeping for future reference.

And here's me envying you witha brand new up to date camera!
Pretty mean of Adobe not putting out an update I don't understand what is involved but
Ican't see it being good for Photoshop if people look elsewhere for editing!
Back to the image - I actually quite like the mono - yes it's different from your usual
but as Ronnie says it may be the 50/50 split.

I think the blues work well and the line of boats makes a good lead in, it also suits the letterbox crop and the vignette further focuses attention on the boats. I prefer this to your more recent uploads. If you have that 'stuck' feeling then maybe time to try a different type of image? It helps me and I get 'stuck' a lot!

The mono for me Mark. I actually like the vignette because the lack of foreground interest and negative space doesn't work with this image, so it helps to draw the eye to the boats which are a interesting contrast in white and will also counteract the central horizon. Keep at it mate, it's still a good image, just not your best.
