I am so glad you posted in the Film Forum or I wouldn't have seen your PF. Superb stuff, right up my street. Am I right in thinking that this type of still life is based on the Vanitas painting style?
Such lovely, rich textures and colours.

Yep, the Vanitas paintings and Momento Mori are exactly the influence on these - even the non obvious stuff has its lighting influenced by them.
