Excellent shot Martyn - a good opener for your pf here at epz.
I started my dslr hobby 2-3 years ago, by photographing TT's in the surrey area, and as a tester myself, appreiciated the shots I got of myself.
This is a legendary course, and as you mention, John is a good, well respected rider, a coach too.
You've got the body sharp, and a nice light blur in the spokes to show movement, well captured.
I look forward to your future uploads.

Welcome to EPZ.
I have to say you've done well with the exposure, the rider being such a contrast to the bike, the composition is also quite strong, but, IMHO, I think it would look better with more blur. Experiment a bit by lengthening the exposures and panning with the subject, you'll be amazed at how slow you can go with the shutter and still get some decent results.
