Jugs

By dusfim
Photographed with a softbox at the back covered with a coloured kite paper to create the effect. Also a reflecting glass under the subjects.

Hi Mario,
I really like this idea, well thought out. I particularly like the effect of overlapping the glass.

Perhaps just a wee bit too blue, I did a mod and reduced the Cyans quite a bit.
Lightened the centre using Nik Darken/lighten centre.

Added a small frame and a stroke just to contain the frame against the light bg a little better, not 100% sure that was needed but a consideration for you.

Converted to the sRGB colour space which is the one recommended for posting on ePz and the web.

I am not convinced that the egg shells need to be there, maybe a bit of a distraction but I think that would be down to very personal taste.

Your photography and choice of subjects has really improved Mario, I can see you are putting much more thought and consideration into your images, well done.

This is very attractive, and I am drawn to it because of the placement of the glass. I think the egg shells could be eliminated, they seem out of context for the rest of the image. I think a bit lighter on the blue would be in order.
Nice work overall. I can see you put a lot of thought into this.

Hello, Mario -

I really like this, and agree with Janet that it could stand being a bit lighter.

I'd like to add that while the jug on the left looks upright, I think a slight downward camera angle has meant that the one on the right seems tilter, and I've tried to address that in my mod.

There are many variations possible on this theme, so I hope we'll see more images of these elegant bottles!

Lovely shot !!...well arranged shapes, with a nice contrast from the twig !!....I would agree
with the others that omitting the eggshells would be an improvement ?....sometimes less
is actually 'more' ??......& for me the blue-tones are fine, just personal taste I suppose ??.Smile

Thank you or describing your setup, that's really useful to know.
It's very effective and accomplished.

I too would like to see it a bit lighter, I;d bo for something like John's mod. But to be fair various degrees of 'lighter' do work here as it's all about the shapes and lines, nothing is 'correct' as such.
In the same vein, the cyan/blue colour is appealing to me but other may prefer other hues which are easy to get using the Hue and Saturation tool depending on the mood you're after.

Th eggshells didn't worry me at first, and to be honest while I'm not bothered I think they're better off not there so we just have the clean lines of the glassware and plants. Keeping thgings simple. Ask yourself do they add or distract or complicate?

While on that thought, one jug would be a lovely simple image too and that leads me to suggest taking images at every stage you introduce an object into the scene so you end up with a number of variations, each (or most) of which will be a good image in its own right (and make the most of your time. You'll also be able to see the images side by side and that will help determine when you've got the optimum setup or gone too far.

Its a nice idea Mario.

I would like to see the egg shells reflected fully if they are to be there.

I would suggest a lighter appearance, and less cyan/green saturation; - as in the mod Ive uploaded.

An enjoyable image. What are you “saying” in this image? I interpret it as ‘summer drinks - in which case, the egg shells theN have a little more relevance!

May I suggest a little more “breathing space” for your subject? A tad tight in the frame, especially beneath it; those reflections deserve more importance, I felt? Toning down the strong cyan colour was a good suggestion (as in mod 1) but maybe not quite so much? There is a tendency to lose the definition between the edges of the glassware if you lighten it too much, I thought?

But a still life showing a lot of attention to detail and a nifty way of creating that colourful background! Well done!

Everything important has been said, I'll just add that set-ups that include long reflections are tricky. Do you show the whole reflection, if not where do you cut it off?

The egg shells could provide a tidy solution if their reflections were included in full with the frame ending immediately below. Mod uploaded to demonstrate.

I do like the two overlapping vases, maybe that's a subject in its own right. Perhaps with some water in the foreground vase, but a lower water level to the background?
