Just look at me

By DaveNewbury
Image taken at WWT Washington, a great place to visit , just a pity we live about a 5 hour drive away so only get to visit a couple of times a year.
Bullfinches usually nest in shrubs or bushes, such as blackthorn and hawthorn, in woodland, orchards or agricultural farmland. The hen builds a flimsy, loose structure nest of twigs and moss lined with fine roots and hair.
The female Bullfinch lays and incubates the eggs that are smooth, glossy and light blue with purplish markings at one end. Both parents feed the young after they have hatched

For many years the Bullfinch was a red list species because the breeding population had declined by more than half. but their numbers have recovered (and continue to do so) and so they have been moved to the amber list.

Thanks for your kind awards (all thanked by pm) and comments which are always good to read Dave

Nice shot indeed. My wife's favourite bird but not the easiest to record.

A brilliant picture Dave.
I've just run out of awards.
The reason they went into decline was first of all chemicals as usual and the fact that huge numbers were shot in Kent and elsewhere as they used to flock into orchards and take all the buds from the trees.
Have them here now so they are spreading out again.
Good work!
