Keeping Watch

By sherlob
Just before dawn in Addo game reserve South Africa, and a juvenile lion (approx 18months) looks around attentively whilst the rest of the pride sleep. Soon after he opted to join the pride. Then again he'll need his rest as in the next few months it is likely his life will change dramatically as the perental males push him and his brothers out of the pride. This will be a difficult transition and a dangerous one; there is a substantial risk of mortal injury during the process, and as a single lion he will be more vulnerable.

Seeing this wild pride close up was a special experience I hope never to forget.
