Kentra Moss

By hrsimages
I would not normally think of a bog as being an interesting subject for photography but cycling across this large expanse of flat peaty land between the river Shiel and Kentra Bay my eye was caught by these peaty mounds topped with mossy, almost sponge like looking plants. I'd love to know how these structures form. Probably they are quite common but I cannot say that I have noticed them anywhere else before. Any bog experts out there?

The hill in the background of this shot is Beinn Resipol a fine mountain and a subject of yesterday's post.

How very interesting....if you find out what they are, I'd love to know. They look like undersea coral a bit.
