Kestrel colours

By phil_j
I know this shot could have been sharper, but I just love the colours in this.

Taken this afternoon, in the last little bit of sunshine that was filtering through the clouds, it was one of those "almost" moments.

I had just finished giving a driving lesson, and as I was driving back through a quiet road with open ground on each side, I spotted this Kestrel hovering close to the road side ahead.
I pulled over and grabbed the camera from the boot and drove slowly uptowards where it was hovering, couldn't believe my luck as it stayed hovering, about 20 feet above the verge, just yards from the car, however in my rush to get set up, and still driving the car ( I did mention it was a QUIET country road didn't I?) I really messed up the settings, and as the bird flew down into the verge I reviewed the screen and was dismayed to see a dark nondescript image...no good for anything.
Cursing myself for being so stupid, I glanced up just as the Kestrel flew back up and landed on a post right in front of me......a second chance!!.
This time I made sure things were right with the settings, and reaching over from the drivers seat shot this handheld through the open window of the passenger door....just as a large coach overtook me causing a bit of camera shake.

However as I mentioned before, I feel the colours in this shot are nice, and I am pleased with the result.

thanks for looking, and I hope you like it as well.

Phil

I think the lack of sharpness can be forgiven, Phil, and you deserve a vote for your ability to capture this under the prevailing conditions, and because it is natural and "in the wild".
