It is so difficult getting shots of birds in flight, I keep trying & fail miserably! To me this is a great shot.

Wonderful aerial shot, difficult to capture in flight, just being in the right place at the right time and keep taking shots.
Its a female by the wqy it has as they say lipstick on the lower beak

I like this a lot,
I love how the wings are blurred ...it gives that sense of being in the hover mode.
A great capture.

Pretty darn good for a motion shot....I've been using a high ISO...at least 1000...for my birds and it seems to work.

Quote:I know there are a lot better shots of Kingfishers on the site, but found this guy/girl near to where I live, been having a go at some shots for a couple of weeks, but with my limited skill at this sort of thing & the lens I've got I was well chuffed with this

Dave,

I had the same experience around 3 yrs ago all I can say is keep going study the bird and reap the rewards, get your self a perch in and get closer to the bird, its a FANTASTIC rush to get one land 7ft away from you, well done !!!
