They are looking tasty to me Diane, love the pink flesh.
That candelabra is something quite special, love the drippy wax.
Personally, I think the yellow flower in the little vase is perhaps an addition you could do without, it covers part of the bottom of that lovely candelabra and I do think the frame would have been cleaner without it and the matching flower to the right.
I can understand why you included it in your frame, perhaps to add something in the space between the candles and the apples.
Maybe try the Apples perched onto of each other, a simple little wooden skewer would hold them in place, almost creating a triangle of apples.
A little less here would be more if you get my meaning.
The knife is nice and I would have had it in the frame too, especially with the cut apples.
Love your base, very authentic.
Still life is harder than most peeps think, light and composition are everything. There are so many ways a frame could be organised, possibilities are endless. It sometimes pays to compose a frame, step back and be really, really critical. Add bits and bobs, take them away, rearrange....and breathe
I want the candelabra

Thank you Janet, so nice of you to give feedback.
I have more to come and I think the flower is not on some of the images as I brought that in after I had already taken some shots.
I had a good swap around while taking the photo's.
I just knew I shouldn't clean up that candelabra after we last used it at Christmas but I did not know why

More to come.....and thank you so much for the inspiration Janet .
I think this may become addictive.

It looks so easy, doesn't it, when you see the finished result of others still lifes? But, as Janet says, it is complicated. You have made a very creditable first effort here, all kudos for that!.
I agree with Janet about the vase and flower, it shouldn't hide part of that fantastic candelabra. I don't think moving it to the rhs of the frame would work, either..
The colour of the cut apples is the eye-drawer, and I think perhaps the one that is cut should be raised up somehow to give it more prominence. That would also balance the height a bit more as there is a lot of empty height over the apples. Keep the knife, it is very relevant.
I wonder if a plain base would be better? Janet is the one to listen to here on ePz regarding these details, so listen to her, not me!
You've made a far better job of this than I would have...design is not an area I excel at.

Thank you Malc.
I am now looking at the cloth I used as the base and thinking that next time I will try a plain cloth.
The one I used is a tablecloth that is so old I remember it being used for birthday parties when I was about four years old, it is fraying and gone so thin it is going into holes. I had to hide them. It has lots of memories that table cloth

I see what you mean about the height, I do think that was what I intended to do with the flower in the vase, fill the gap. I can see I have positioned it in not the best place now.
Now Malc...have you read my tag's

Not easy these still lifes. I enjoy painting them but I could never photograph them. I like the arrangement here but I wonder if you need more light on the apples as they should be the main centre of interest. Although I like the way you have exposed the candle flames I find that they compete for my attention rather than the apples being the main focal point.
Phil.
Phil.

I'm not a still-lifer but I think this is impressive for a first effort. I too had doubts about the flower and the apples being low in the composition - do you have a small cake-stand or something similar that you could put them on or around?
The light and the background colour are just right, let's hope you can get more Kissabels!

Thank you for the compliment, it feels really good to know I inspire someone.
Hehehe, it is very addictive Diane, especially when you get some really good comments / ideas on your images, makes you think....what shall I do next ?
