Kongoni

By Karuma1970
There are eight subspecies of hartebeest, known locally as kongoni, in Africa. A large and very handsome antelope, the hartebeest stands just over 1 m at the shoulder and has a typical head-and-body length of 200 to 250 cm. Jackson's hartebeest, found in Murchison, is regarded as a hybrid between the Lelwel and Cokeís hartebeest. In Murchison they need to be on the lookout for lion and, for younger ones, hyena.

Africa - especially Kenya - was so on my bucket list but every time I thought I might get there there was another political upheaval. Maybe in the next life.

Strange looking beasties but I think I now see what some of the masks are emulating. Hard to say where the head ends and the horns begin.

They look very cautious.
