Kos Kat

By WeeGeordieLass
In keeping with the latest Greek, cats, steps theme.

This friendly little guy followed us around the village of Mandraki on Nisyros. If I could have taken him home I would have done.

I love the way he posed perfectly for me - looking straight into the camera with those gorgeous eyes Grin

I'd be grateful if you'd let me know your opinions of which is the best crop V1 or V2.

I love the way he blends in with the sti=onework, how you place him in the image.
The only thing I might prefer is loosing everything above a square crop. The oof pots distract a bit from the main subject, methinks.
And yes, he is tempting Smile

Its a nice shot, either way. Slightly underexposed, and benefits with a little liear contrast boost.

I prefer V1, but I would crop it to an 8 X 10 aspect ratio, which removes some of the height, and I would blur the upper area, as if you used a wide aperture. I say this as the steps receding add a certain something that V2 doesnt have. It might be context, not sure what to call it.

Anyway, Ive loaded a mod to show roughly what Im talking about.

A super picture with a super cat in it - cats really know how to choose people don't they? Don't ever believe you pick them, they are too superior for that and choose where and who they want to be with. I agree with Annette he/she really blends in nicely. Clean place - clean cat.

Now here is a proper Greek cat photograph. I prefer V2, just the cat. I also like V1.
Why I like I like V2 is down to the content. The steps are interesting but the plants are not very really exciting so I feel the cat sitting on some interesting steps is just right.
I've done a mod which crops to landscape.
Good photo whatever is done to it,

Nice effort. Would leave composition as is and boost the contrast a little. It may be these foreign cats, but it looks a tiny bit distorted. Have you already cropped without retaining both dimensions in proportion?

Hi Everyone,

Sorry it's taken so long to reply to you all, but this is the first chance I've had the time to reply since uploading my Kos Kat shot.

Annette: Thanks for your advice on the crop - I see your point about the plants distracting attention from the cat.

Willie: I like your mod very much - the crop is great and the blurring of the pots at the top of the steps keeps context in the shot but doesn't distract. Thanks very much. The idea that you've shown me here will be helpful to me in future I'm sure. I love the border, and think it matches the image perfectly.

Julia: Thanks for taking the time to comment - I'm pleased you feel the cat belongs in that environment.

Frank: Thanks for your comments Frank................completely agree - cats are sooooo cool!!

Ian: Glad you like the shot. Thanks for the mod I like your crop. It ensures that the attention is on the subject of the shot.

Paul: I've checked the original - the cat is the same shape. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for all of your great critique everyone............much appreciated.
