Ladybird (Ladybug) Metamorphosis

By LynneJoyce
There are lots of types of photography and reasons for taking photographs. This set is documentary and records the fascinating process that takes place near to where I live at this time every year - the magical metamorphosis of Ladybird (Ladybugs) from larvae to pupae to imagos (adults). An accessible explanation of the process can be found here -

The 4 stages Of the Ladybird (Ladybug) Life Cycle

So no prizes for composition or artistic content are expected. I have placed the images roughly in the order of the process. I just hope that you can share my joy and wonder at this magical transition.

P.S. There are some pretty neat shadows in here too to fit in with the Saturday theme.

I find the set amazing, its like the ugly duckling, turning into the beautiful swan. Not wishing to offend the larvae of course. Great capture , tfs. Pam

Superb set Lynne, some good specimens and varieties, V11 and V12 have the edge for me and the shadow in V13 is brilliant! Excellent images presented... Isabel GrinGrin

Fascinating Lynne - I do love the 'loveliness' only collective noun I can find for ladybirds.
I rarely see ladybirds let alone see the metamoLADYBIRDS LADYBUGS

A LOVELINESS of ladybirds.
Sent in by Simon Odell - not authenticated but too nice to omit.
Joe Dahl says - I too have heard of the collective noun for ladybirds being a 'loveliness' as heard on a BBC Radio 4 programme a while ago. rphosis of these creatures.

A super set of images documenting the metamorphosis. The first time I found a ladybird larvae was this year. Love V11 & 12 showing the difference in some of the ladybirds.
