This is my take on the pagan wheel of the year celebration of Lammas / Lughnasadh. Occurring at the start of August it is a celebration marking the first harvest, the harvest of grains.
Whilst this is a very busy still life image( I usually prefer them less cluttered, it contains many elements linked to Lammas, making it a narrative image.
Firstly we have various grains and breads made from the grains. I have made a Corn dolly as is tradition. Sunflowers, sprigs of mint, Corn, a tankard of beer made from grains, early fruits - apples, orange and red candles, the brooms and the use of green and gold ribbons all have their place here, as do the colours used. There are some elements I would have liked to have added but do not have the props, namely a scythe used for cutting the corn and a horn of plenty basket - maybe I will create another one in the future including these.

My next Wheel of the year still life with be for Mabon which occurs mid September - the fruit harvest
