Lammas - the grain harvest still life

By Angi_Wallace
This is my take on the pagan wheel of the year celebration of Lammas / Lughnasadh. Occurring at the start of August it is a celebration marking the first harvest, the harvest of grains.
Whilst this is a very busy still life image( I usually prefer them less cluttered, it contains many elements linked to Lammas, making it a narrative image.
Firstly we have various grains and breads made from the grains. I have made a Corn dolly as is tradition. Sunflowers, sprigs of mint, Corn, a tankard of beer made from grains, early fruits - apples, orange and red candles, the brooms and the use of green and gold ribbons all have their place here, as do the colours used. There are some elements I would have liked to have added but do not have the props, namely a scythe used for cutting the corn and a horn of plenty basket - maybe I will create another one in the future including these.
For more info on Lammas and the reasons behind each element etc follow this link https://www.goddessandgreenman.co.uk/lammas/
My next Wheel of the year still life with be for Mabon which occurs mid September - the fruit harvest

Very creative, clever you making your own props exactly how you need them to portray Lammas.
Bet that took some time and patience to set up.
Well crafted.
