Laura

By TrevBatWCC
Not got many images left from Norfolk worth uploading, so here's a quickie break with an image from our Camera Club model night this last Monday with Laura. It always feels a bit of rush on these nights, as other members are waiting to photograph the model and you don't want to hog the session. So, I often feel I could have done better - especially like here when the model's wearing an enormous ring on her right hand, which features in the better shots I got. After transferring my efforts from SD card to iPad, it was suggested she would look good in mono, which I do think works well in helping remove the distraction of the brightly coloured ring!

Single Raw image processed in Adobe Camera Raw 7, tweaked in Photoshop Elements 11.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging.

A great capture Trev, good mono tones....she should have however done her nails for the shoot, they are chipped and in need of a paintBlush.......not your fault though...

Don't have an real issues with the colour but prefer mono....prrhaps you could change the ring colour to coordinate withe the blues Smile

Quality of both very good, but the ring does attract attention in the colour version so the mono wins out for me.

A fine portrait ~ a close call but I prefer the mono version.

Definitely mono, Trev. The purple ring plays awkwardly with the blue headscarf.
A very striking, animated face nonetheless.

Mono for sure. Love her facial expression and quirky scarf on her head.

Two stunning versions, Trev.
So sharp, well detailed and lit - excellent work.
Can't choose between them so half a vote each!

Like the lighting on her face, Trev, very sculpted, a very good expression, and no distracting colour.

I can see the attraction of removing the distracting elements by going entirely mono but it seems such a shame to lose those lovely skin and eye colours.

Agreed, but there is a third way - to desaturate the distracting and clashing colour elements. Unfortunately you haven't enabled mods so I can't post this third version which I think works very well (well I would, wouldn't I). I will e-mail it to you.

Yes, I thought afterwards about de-saturating the colour of the ring, or to re-colour it to match the colour of her blouse! Smile

While the colour is nice, the mono is stronger as you concentrate more on the face and eyes. Shows you know how to do a good mono conversion Smile

A subject I have never tried but guess I'd be hopeless at, Trev. but you have captured the model in a very appealing pose: of the two, I think I do prefer the coloured version too.

The b&w is super Trev with wonderful tones...you've done a great job of catching the model's character.
