Laurel Hill Cemetery #1

By handlerstudio
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A few weeks ago, in lieu of sitting together and visiting...my old friend (and older friend) Robert and I took a scenic Saturday walk through the historic Laurel Hill Cemetery, overlooking the Schuylkill River and Valley. It is very hilly, contributing to its variety and beauty.

A few years ago, after a local Jewish Cemetery was vandalized, i went there and spent a couple of hours shooting. The color photos were, frankly, not all that wonderful....but an amazing transformation when I transformed them to mono. So, most of the leads of this series will be mono's and I will include the color....you all be the judges.

For some reason, i find the mono images more pleasing for cemetaries and this is no exception....i like this alot.

I've flipped back and forth between the two. The colour seems to show some of the aging a little better and since there's not a lot of colour I think it's equally appropriate to the mono. I like them both.

Mono for me Peter, especially the lead.

Why on earth would anyone vandalise a cemetery?!

I'm not sure there is that much that sways me one way or the other. They both have something to be said for them.
Have you ever been to the First World War cemeteries in Belgium like Tyne Cot? Iím not quite sure why but it would take a hard man Ö

And one of the beauties of Philadelphia, Glenn, is that one of the first communities to come to assist was the Muslim community here. As Jews did when a pig's head was thrown on the doorstep of the Al Aqsa Islamic Society a number of years ago.

Mono or me Peter, though the subdued tones in the colour work really well too.
