Laurel Hill Cemetery #17

By handlerstudio
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A rainy Sunday....it has been pretty dry...so a day of more or less steady light rain is welcome.

The theme for today is the roofs of mausoleums....and showing the hilly landscape of the cemetery.

I find 4-5 very interesting. Looks more like a heavy lid then a roof. In Portugal, in a cemetery there that I found interesting, they had the grim reaper and such symbols of morbid death on the gate. But the mausoleums had spots for two coffins on each side - like bunk beds. When there was another family member moving in the coffins were lowered into a huge cavity under the floor to make room for the new guy. I asked once why there was no smell from the decay and was told that they used lime on the bodies.

Dora, remember it is very hilly. 4 and 5 are the back of the roof of a mausoleum.
