Laurel Hill Cemetery #5

By handlerstudio

This one takes a bit of explanation.....Harry Kalas was a long time broadcaster for the Philadelphia Phillies....which for you Brits, is a baseball team, and one I am quite devoted to as a recent convert (1982) to Philadelphia. He died in the broadcast box of a heart attack just before the start of a game. In games the Phils would win, at the end, he would always sing, to the ballpark crowd, not the TVor radio, Frank Sinatra's song, High Hopes, which of course is doing things and succeeding at tasks that are impossible. He was a beloved figure. Clearly, this is one of the newer graves and gravestones at Laurel Hill. Some people think his gravestone is a little is, of course, a microphone. So, here, my sense is that color wins today. The detail in the version includes seats from Veterans Stadium, the late and unlamented ballpark where they played before where they are now, Citizens Bank Ballpark. And, we get to go to games this season!!! have two ballgame buddies, Tobie and Joe, and we will be including my step son Isaac this year...and all of us will have had our two jabs.

I will try to get through everyone's photos...but I just came out of two Zoom meetings....and I need to spend some time with my bride. So thanks to all for your cemetery votes and input on color v. mono.

And notice the stone's on Harry's gravestone....He must have been Jewish...I did not know. The Jewish tradition is that when you visit someone's grave, you put a stone on top to say you were there and to honor their memory.

Very interesting Peter in many respects. I didn't know the thing about the stones or, of course, the story about the baseball.

I knew you would have a pithy comment, Dora....
