Lazy Hazy Harry

By Sararose
This is Harry being lazy. Smile But I need help with the editing. I keep trying to edit this in different ways and it doesn't work out... but without any editing, there looks like there's something wrong as well. I tried lightening the eyes, but it turned out strange... I'd really appreciate a mod, thanks! Smile

Its just underexposed. I made a layer copy, changed mode to screen, used a mask to remove brightness behind the cat. Used the shadow tool in CS5 to lighted the eyes, and added catchlights by painting over existing small catchlights with a soft white brush.

Use the onboard flash for these shots, it should perform as a fill flash, low power, and will do a great job on the eyes. Shutter speed was very low, so youre lucky to get a decent shot at all!

Loaded a mod, happy new year.

Thanks, banehawi! Happy New Year!

I rested the camera on the surface Harry was laying on, so that probably made it a bit steadier.

Looks good, is it just me or are the eyes a bit noisy? Maybe it's just my screen...

Thanks again!

I like both this and the mod--- your kitty looks lazy, half asleep and the bokeh makes a nice contrasts with the sleepy cat!

A gorgeous capture, I love the way you've caught the coloured lights in the background.

Although Banehawi has already given you a brilliant mod, I thought I'd have a go too. I haven't made a better one then Banehawi's, just different!

I selected the lights in the background and adjusted the contrast, then, after selecting 'inverse' I adjusted the cat's head (making it a lot lighter). After that I zoomed right in to the eyes and played with the 'burn' and 'dodge' tools. Thank you for allowing us to 'play' with your image - it was fun! Grin

I think this is a well composed image - the most important bit! Smile

The mods show what you can do with it - as always, practice, practice, practice! Wink

Eyes are a little noisy, - very perceptive. Its because they were so underexposed that lightening revealed some noise. So flash next time for good eyes!
