Leading The Charge

By NathanS
This image was taken at Sheffield Fayre during the Aug 2007 Bank Holiday weekend. A major part of the fayre is the Multi-period historical displays organised by EventPlan.
This photo was taken of a Calvary Officer leading the charge as part of the American Civil Battle re-enactment by EventPlan and The American Civil War Society. (1861 – 1865)

I have been to numerous re-enactment events but this was one of the best events I have so far attended in terms of photographic opportunities. This is for 3 main reasons:-
(1) the location of the arena – this was at the base of a slope, and since the majority of the audience generally sat higher up the slope it was easy to get right up to the barrier tape at the edge of the arena without obstructing anyone’s view (especially if you keel down)
(2) The wide range of historic periods represented and
(3) the event culminated in three incredibly well orchestrated battles. (A French and Indian War skirmish from 1755; an American Civil Battle and a World War II skirmish.)

Not only that but the event was FREE! (Though I may have had to pay for parking – can’t remember.)
