Leaving Dundee.

By Tooma
One from a few years back which I came across tonight. We were at Broughty Ferry, and I looked towards Dundee just along the coast, saw this cargo ship heading out seaward, zoomed in, and took just the one shot - don't know why I only took the one - memory remnant of thrift from days using film when every shot counted perhaps - anyway, it turned out ok and I quite liked it.

Just did some checking - it's an ASPHALT/BITUMEN TANKER, and at the moment it is moored in the Baltic Sea. https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:326782/mmsi:212436000/imo:9256420/vessel src="/v6/assets/images/emoticons/tongue.png" style="vertical-align: middle;" alt="Tongue" title="Tongue" />ANDION

It needs to sail up the river Nene where the local inhabitants could lure it onto the rocks (?), plunder its cargo and fill in the potholes in our roads which, at the moment, resemble more London after a bad few days of the blitz than surfaces to drive on! Smile

I particularly like the 'compression' of this long lens shot, Tom.
A fine 'one take' capture.

Like Richard I'm very taken with the long lens compression in this shot as well as the composition. Although the ship is the main subject the landscape elements (bridge, town and hills) all play their part and allow the viewer to have a wander around the entire image! There's something about the colours and tonal quality that gives this a slightly dated, nostalgic feel. SmileSmileSmile

I think the new V&A building would have been in the background if taken now. There used to be few oil rigs also moored in Dundee being maintained at the Caledon shipyard now closed. The bow waves show it is really moving on its way. A blast from the past!
