The Leeds Liverpool Canal between Arley and Adlington north of Wigan, this section was originally built as the Lancaster Canal and opened in 1798. There is a bit of a Scottish connection around here with the nearby "Aberdeen Farm" and "Little Scotland" near Blackrod. I think this goes back to the time when the Earl of Balcarres, who had Scottish roots, lived at the nearby Haigh Hall and many of his estate workers were recruited from Scotland.

Thanks for looking.
