Great candid capture, I remember those day's well, a fishing net, a stream and a jam jar with some string round the top, many happy hours.

Lovely capture! I didn't see you taking this 60+ years ago, but I'm sure that is me. It is just the sort of thing I'd get up to...then trudge home with wet feet, drenched wellies, smelling of bog but clasping a jam jar with some captured wonder! Photos that trigger memories are priceless. Thanks Andy

Kids being kids, this is timeless and beautiful. I like the way you kept your distance, didn't crowd in on top of them. That gives them their own space and privacy.

Memories of the days when kids could be kids, and doing what kids do best.......exploring the great outdoors!! Great mono and powerfully evocative.

my guess is that the boy with the net is at a disadvantage as the others with their hands are more agile and can move around more quickly to catch the tadpoles(?).

Very good image for the memory cells, Kath, love it. Yes we used to do exactly this over half a century ago. I like Andys description above it fits perfectly. Sticklebacks and minnows, hours of totally absorbed focus, and a Robertson’s jam jar with a string. How fortunate we were. Good to see others relating in the same way to this endearing image. It gets a Winston from me 🐈 An aspect of days before WiFi and mobile phones 🌞

Great to see kids intouch with nature instead of gazing at the net, Kath. Well, two of them anyway.Wink

I feel a bit sorry for whatever they have captured but so typical of kids being kids. Love the background in this.

When the little buggers hide and you can't reach them with your net, but also don't want to get all wet and muddy, then you have to let your less fussy mates get in there...

Thank you all for the lovely comments and memories of your childhoods! Think we all had a respect for the natural world then and we would capture, look and put back. It's a shame that we now have to educate children to do that as we just grew up with adults telling us and reading books. Yes, Trev and Malc, our hands were often delving into streams and mud! I have taken children on trips and field studies that have never ventured out of their local inner town area. Hopefully some more cash will be put into schools and be ring fenced for outdoor pursuits post Covid. Nothing like being outdoors for children's all round well being. Adults too! WinkWink

Thanks Dave and Geoff for the awards, much appreciated and I'll message you both.
