Lime green

By AnnChown
This was inspired by Pete's article recently on still life on the Photo Month calendar. I think there is room for improvement in the lighting to recover some of the shadows on the right of the lime (I'm reluctant to push the shadows slider any further as it may show up the faults in the background!) - and I think there may be a bit of over-exposure on the lime, but comments and criticisms are very welcome, as usual!
As 2013 approaches, a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have commented and spent time to push me in the right direction with my images during the past year. I hope my images have improved and, if so, it's down to you all, so many, many thanks for your time.
I hope you have a happy and healthy new year.

Looks good to me, Ann: the heavily shadowed side to the lime adds a wee bit mystery, so I'd be happy with the image just as it is.
Happy New Year to you and your's.

I like the lighting just as it is, the shadow side adds depth to the image. Very clever.

I think those shadows are just right. A good foil to the acid-green kick.

A common theme with a brand new colour twist. If I had shot this I would present it with a 90 degrees rotation.

If there is any over-exposure on the lime, which I doubt, it is compensated for by the darker version in the reflection.
A lovely idea, well executed.
A wonderful New Year to you both!

Very well done Ann. The lighting particularly on the lime looks very good although as I think you have already said the unlit side of the limes reflection could be a little lighter.
The composition is also good although if I had taken the shot I would probably have made the space top and bottom absolutely equal, but thats more personal taste more than criticism.
I have really enjoyed looking at your images during 2012 and look forward to what you come up with in 2013. Have a Happy New Year.

What a brilliant idea! Beautifully done, Ann, and if you want to cast more light on the right hand side, use any piece of white paper/card to bounce the light there. Hold the card on the right and angle it till you get the illumination you want.

Here's me wishing you and yours a 2013 filled with light from all angles Wink

Looks pretty good to me, Ann. You could always selectively lighten the reflected lime a touch then turn the image on its side and confuse the hell out of us all TongueGrinGrin

Cracking shot !!!....great idea, beautifully arranged & lit !!.....lovely quality in the minimalist notch !!

Just try positioning a white card facing the subject on the RH side of the camera, just to 'lift' the shadows a smidgen.......

A lovely shot to finish the year off wishes for the New Year Ann..............

Mate, this is just awesome! Simple, colourful and simetrical ! Smile
I would've liked to see some photoshop cleanup though for there are few spots on the forks that are a bit distracting.

Now this is an excellent 'fringe' (read: alternative) still-life, Ann.
Beautifully simple and very effective.
I can see this enlarged and being even more impressive hanging on a wall.

Nice composition & subject matter, love the reflections.
A couple of good ideas above for shoving a touch more light onto the dark side of things & the slightly overdone highlight on the Lime could easily be toned down a tad in your editing program...not too much though as you will lose the shape & form of the Lime.
Have a great New Year.

A nice way to end the year Ann on a GEA.

Its very imaginative, - love the balancing on the forks. The baclground still has a few light bits, but its not bad.

The image is underexposed, likely due to the reflection from the skin and forks, so lifting exposure helps, and then using the shadow tool on the lower half solves the reflection issue.

Bright areas are completely normal on fruit skin, and you need to be careful not to eliminate too much of it.

I like Dereks suggestion, - its gives the shot symmetry, and thats what a shot like this needs.

Mod loaded with all this done, hope you like it, and all the best for 2013.
