Hi Louise, good to see you uploading in the Critique Gallery again!
It's a great subject for an abstract, just light and lines, who needs anything more? I have various ideas for ways of photographing it, I assume that it is something that you can go back to - but so far as this upload is concerned my main advice would be to go easy on the sharpening!
Have a careful look at the thin blueish lines running along the lower edge of each band, particularly near the centre of the frame - the lines are breaking up into little 'steps'. That is a sign of over-sharpening, and once you notice it, it becomes quite intrusive and annoying.
Assuming that you can go back to the subject, this is something that needs cool formality. I would suggest you either go for for perfect horizontals, or rotate the camera for diagonals. And then consider a square crop. Your portrait frame draws the eye upwards, which creates a nice tension with the not-quite horizontals. But square leaves the eye free to bounce around inside the frame.

This is a good base for a lot of experimentation, and could be a very nice abstract print.
Ive shown one possibility in the mod. Its rotated, brightness increased, cropped, a number of different colour tones applied, graduated dark to light, bottom to top, and a frame.
The file size is quite small which could also contribute to tose jagged edges, - I left them in the mod and added a lens flare

Thanks, I have just uploaded a friends copy of Photoshop Elements 11 as I can't afford Lightroom or photoshop (the other one) as I'm strapped for cash (£10 per month is quite expensive for me at the moment) I am going to upload some other photo's
