"Lipstick" by Antjuan DeCarlos

By antjuandecarlos
Model, Brielle Monet, demonstrates how we break ourselves down in our own mirror far more than the world does for us. This story is about recognizing the beauty you have and embracing it with confidence. Sometimes, just starting with a simple shade of lipstick.

Beautifully contrasty tones, softly curving planes and a very imaginative pose. I think the image would be stronger without the wall/edge of the mirror down the left hand side, so maybe an upright letterbox style format? (Yeah, I know it's contradictory, but I can't think how else to describe it - long and tall?) Given the title, I really expected to see the model's lips, with perhaps a hint of lipstick kept in for a splash of colour, but no. Now whether I'm missing something in your intention, I don't know. But as you also mention the lipstick again in your description, it would seem an important part of the rhetoric for this image ... ?? (Mind you, maybe that's your point and I'm just missing the bl**din' obvious!?) Grin Still a very good image though.

Thank you @dvddrew

It's actually funny you mention that @TanyaH . This particular shot is actually part of a "series". This particular still does not show the lipstick "yet", but rather the subject studying her body in the mirror. The site only allows me to upload one photo every 24 hours lol, so I can understand your confusion. As far as your cropping idea, I think I can kinda see what you mean with cropping the mirror out of the image and isolating more attention on the subject. I think in the end, I decided to keep the image as is because, as a series, it really pulls everything together.

Thank you so much for in depth feedback! it means a lot! I'll be releasing the full series and video this weekend on my website. You're more than welcome to see it then. Smile
