Loan cloud

By Barbicans
I do like this image personally but does it work. I can't decide so hopefully some constructive critique will help me here. I'd already seen the tree and then later the cloud drifting toward it. Unfortunately it was too high and I could only just fit it in the frame. Please I'm open to your thoughts.

Shot at the perfect moment.
Well done minimalist image with loads of ironic humour.
I have my reservations for the maxi signature. So should your banker as he received a cheque to pay 9,836 inc. VAT for lighting equipment.

As for the signature yes I should have probably uploaded a clean no signed image. But at the time I uploaded from my phone that's all I had.

Thank you. But is there enough space for the cloud to breathe. I was rushing to capture it at the precise moment and wish now I'd been that bit shorter on focal length. At least then I could have cropped to suit.

I sympathize... situations like that are deeply frustrating.
A real shame because it's a good idea, and as you've already recognized, simply pulling the zoom back a bit would have saved the day. Ah well, we learn from experience...

Regarding the cloud, I personally think you've just about got away with it, though it would have been better with a bit more space above. The thing that lets it down for me is I feel there's not quite enough at the bottom... it feels too tight, constricted.
Could you rescue it in post by adding canvas top and bottom, or even just at the bottom, and filling in? Working on the full sized file, I should think you'd retain the quality. Getting the filling in to blend perfectly might be a bit challenging, but it could be worth a try at least.
I'll upload a couple of mods as illustrations of how it might look.

Politeness precludes a comment on the signature, besides which I'm not a young man so there's my blood pressure to consider.

Have a look anyway, and maybe think about it.

Alan

...Oh, and it's "Lone."

I think there are several posssibilities here.

Certainly, the signature is a thorough spoiler here, or in competition.

My inclination is to go very unconventional and crop to a vertical panorama, and possibly sort the slight curvature of the ground (I realise that it may well be real, not an artifact of using a zoom lens, but it looks a little odd...)

Alan and I were typing at the same time, I think.

Given the tonal gradient in the sky, adding canvas at the top isn't impossibe, though not trivially easy, I susepct - should yo uwant to do that.

Thank you whatriveristhis for you response. The original file has more at the bottom of the frame. I deliberately cropped more off the bottom to try and be in more tune with the top edge and yes I could add more to the canvas but I've not tried that yet. And yes I see my error in spelling, not my strongest area and one I have a problem with. I will check out the mods once I'm back on my PC.

Dudler the curvature was real. I will take a look at that too and see if I can warp that out in Photoshop and see how that looks. 👍

Whatriveristhis you've nailed it with mod 1 that's what I was after. And Dudler I love that mod too. I never thought of that. I will see if I can recreate those mods myself. Massive thank you to you both. 👍

I like the minimalism of this shot. Makes me think about isolation, desolation, deserts, remoteness, etc. The black and white helps with that. I'd have done away with the signature though, it's a bit distracting. Other than that, a great image. It's images like this that I aspire to create.

Thank you. At the time I posted the image it was the only version I had on my phone as I was going to post it on social media. I was a little hasty posting wanting some thoughts on the image.

I'm pleased we could be of help, and thanks for getting back to us... it gives us a lift when we know our efforts have hit the mark.
If you can rework this image to your satisfaction you might consider re-posting it in the Main Gallery, where I reckon it might do well.

Thank you Alan. I'm going to work on it for sure and I will definitely be posting it in the gallery section. I may need some help with the graduation blend though if I get stuck. 😊

Yes, that could be tricky....

I personally like this very much. It's minimalist and quirky - a bit of a rule breaker with the tree dead centre and the cloud near the edge of the frame. Works well in mono with nice gradation and tonal range. An increase in contrast is another option to make the tree a complete silhouette and it would also make the cloud stand out even more. My kind of image!
