Loch Earn Dawn

By jasonrwl
First Camera Club competition of the season tonight and I managed a "Commended" with this image which is a mono version of an earlier upload.

Nothing else placed though - bit disappointed that Mist and Shadows didn't make it but some good competition Sad

Onwards and upwards.

Thanks for looking
Jason

Congratulations on a "Commended" for the mono - lots of texture and tones.
These pier images seem to be popular.
I'm disappointed too that Mist and Shadows wasn't placed.
Did you use the colour version?
Competition must be fierce!
Presumably this was an external judge? how many placements are there?
Do you accumulate points over the year?

Do you get feedback as to why they didn't get higher marks? Excellent symmetry and tones in this mono, Jason.

Yes, the judge is always quite full in their critique of each image although in the end it also comes down to the competition - which image do they like best. The Mist and Shadows image did not get any significant criticism from him apart from a vague comment about a possible lack of a focal point but there were better images.

The comment on the commended image above was that it might have been improved with a person or a dog or some such on the jetty to improve interest.

I prefer this to the original colour version, but then I do like b&w. Don't feel it needs a person to increase interest, I like the lack of human prescence.

Have you tried a b&w version of the mist & shadows image? Could be a good un too.

Thanks Malc - I have posted a B&W image of mist and shadows on epz but had to choose for my comp can't use two versions of the same image - may have chosen the wrong one!
