Award Shortlist

London A1

By robincoombes
I have been knocked out by the response to my last upload particularly as I was away at a conference last week so difficult to access epz an enormous thanks to everyone for their comments and awards. I knew when I took it, it was one of those "yes" moments and so pleased to share so others can enjoy it as well.

Saturday saw three steam specials departing London, including the new A1 loco Tornado seen here approaching Clapham Junction late afternoon. V2 is a traditional 3/4 shot at Woking and a going away shot. V4 is West Country Class No 34067 Tangmire with an excursion to Somerset passing Reading West and V5 is the third loco Merchant Navy Class No 35028 Clan Line on a Orient Express lunch special.

I must admit, I don't usually 'visit' transport photos, but this one's thumbnail really caught my eye. I love the lighting, the way it catches not only the side of the train, but the way it hits the rails. A beautiful image, well seen and caught.

a superb set Robin. I am a little bit miffed as the local radio anounced today that a Tornado sped through Woking (a local town) on Saturday, then announced it was the A1 Pacific Tornado and I missed it; damn.

All great locomotive shots but version one is the show stopper! Lighting is wonderful with a great lead-in from the rail tracks.

David.

Hi Robin,
A superb series of pictures, can't fault 'em!

I think the images here are a mixture, ranging from fantastic (the 1st one of Tornado) to 'i'm not really sure why you uploaded this' (3rd one - tornado going away.

It's a quandry I have raised with the team on how we should judge as I think the 1st image is fantastic and would like to nominate it for an HC or PA as I know a few very good pros who covered Tornado's first run and got nothing approaching as good as the first image but I feel it's let down a bit by one or two of the others which are generally decent images but nowhere near award material.

(still added a vote though!!)
I love the railway lines working as lead lines and then the curve of the track to show off the carriages, magic!
