London E3

By AnnChown
This is the tow path of the Grand Union Canal at Mile End - about 500 metres from where I once lived. I love this canal and the vibrancy of the whole area. Thanks to Dave WhiteRose1 for reminding me that the chimney is a a remnant of an 1896 steam saw mill. I'd completely forgotten....
Thank you for looking and for any comments and/or criticisms and also thank you for your overwhelming response to "Six Bob a Gallon"!
Ann

Ann,
You've really captured the essence of this place. That weathered brick chimney harkens back to days past. Your composition gives us into the image. There is a bit of a time line inherent in this shot as well.
The fresh graffiti painted on a recently erected corrugated barrier taking us back to the location and time of the brick chimney.
Very interesting. I'm glad you added the narrative as well.

A familiar site down the London bits of canals. Well captured, Ann, the composition works well with the chimney. It's a remnant of an 1896 steam saw mill.

I like your composition, Ann, with the lone brick chimney that stands isolated beside the canal, hinting at a more industrial past for the area. I like the way that cloud almost looks like smoke coming out of the chimney, and I also like the addition of the two birds on the path, and the perspective on the graffitied wall.

I was about to say the same as Walter too, only he says it much better than I would have done!

My granny lived in E1 near Stepney Green, only about a mile away, yet Mile End might have been another universe, part of the Empty Space between Stepney and Poplar (where an aunt lived). So while I should know this bit like the back of my hand, I don't!
Lovely light and composition and a nice little bit of history too.

Timimg spot on, Ann to get the top of that chimney framed by the passing cloud.
The two pigeons, appearing to pay homage to their wall. And the big unanswered question as to what is to be found beyond the barrier of the wall?
All in all, a marvellous image.

Voting on yesterday's, a day late. Urban heaven, photographically speaking! I love the colours and the brightness they bring to what might otherwise be just any old bit of graffiti. Superb. See you've picked up a couple of my pigeons too ........ !

Regards.

You've captured the colourful graffiti so well, Ann, and I love your composition. Tell you what I find really cool here too - that the top of the chimney is sitting so comfortably in that cloud Grin
