Long Hill

By HelenaJ
This is a route from Whalley Bridge to Buxton in the Peak District. I have caught it just as the sun was setting but am troubled by the shadows and wondered if someone would like to take a look at it to see if it can be improved. I also was thinking about cropping a bit more. All critique and modifications would be gratefully accepted. Smile

I like the evening light you have captured here. This looks as I would imagine it actually looked, so IMO the shadows are just right. What troubles you about the shadows?

I think the shadows are fine - they emphasise the shape of the hill and are a feature of evening light. It looks to me as though the pic is down on the left hand side, but that could easily be levelled in P.S and result in a very pleasing landscape

Im with Nigel in wanting some more information on what you mean by the fact youre troubled by the shadows? can you give some more information?

leaving this aside for a moment, the image overall is a very pleasant scene, however when I look at the histogram, its quite lacking in blacks, - meaning its a little flat, or lacking in contrast. Correcting this alone gives the image a considerable boost, and more punch, as it also increases the colour saturation.

I would personally suggest more of a letterbox format by cropping a little of the empty space at the bottom off.

Loaded a mod to show what I mean,

Thank you all for your help. I will definately try some of your suggestions and tips - I will have to develop my PS skills a bit. The shadows I meant were the creeping shadows cutting across the field and I was worrying that it divided up the photo too much and in the wrong place, but judging by your comments this is possbily no bad thing as it shows an evening atmosphere.
~I love all your mods so thank you for taking the trouble.
