Long-legged Fly (Medetera jacular)

By barrywebb
I found another kind of Long-legged Fly in a garden today whilst working. I had taken some shots during my lunch break, I returned to the same place later and spotted the same fly eating a tiny green Grasshopper. It stayed put long enough for me to take a 17 shot focus stack.
Many thanks to Pam, Marie, Norman, Janet, Ian, Bill, Brian and Keith for your awards on yesterdays Long-legged Fly shot. Plus a special thanks to Dave for the GEA.

I think that this photo might just be the very best of it's type I have seen on EPZ (I accept I may have missed a few)! Truly excellent and my award to go with it. Chris

An apt name for the fly with these length of legs. It is like he was on stilts. Another great macro plus details on the fly to educate me a bit further on insects..

An amazing photo! I love the details you've captured (by the way, the 'grasshopper' is a young Leafhopper - I do feel a little sympathy for it!).

A fine image. Just don't like to see such high ISO for macro, especially f the image has to be blown up.

You donít have any choice when shooting handheld on an overcast day. I would rather use a high ISO than risk a slow shutter speed and an image thatís not sharp, especially when using a macro lens and extension tubes.
