Looking for the kill.

I was trying to show the wonderful colours and textures in the Barn owls wings. Also how they hang in the air looking for food

Welcome to Ephotozine, Sheila, and also to the Critique Gallery.

It's possible that you didn't intend loading the image for critique - certainly the quality is entirely high enough for you to get votes and possibly awards for this image. Here, you don't get that, but instead you'll get thoughtful critique, comments and possibly options. If that's not your intention, if you just want people to see your work, you need to make sure that you don't tick the 'Critique wanted' box when you upload.

Alternatively, if you do want us to look at your picture as critically as possible, and in detail, we need more information from you. If we're going to give you the best feedback that we possibly can, we need real input from you, including a lot more information. That way, the critique that we give is far more likely to be what you are looking for, and consequently far more helpful to you.

What is your reason for requesting critique?
What inspired you to take this photo?
What were you hoping to achieve?
Do you feel that you succeeded or failed?
Are there any specific elements of your photo that you want help with?
Do you want advice on camera settings, processing, composition, or something else?
Do you have any particular questions you would like answered?

Without that data, it's only possible to offer limited comments. Exposure looks good, and composition supports the idea you write about: but without knowing more about you and the picture, I can't comment much further. If you're an experienced wildlife worker, you've got things pretty right technically: if you're a novice, there may have been a measure of good fortune!

Over to you.

Hi - I am very new to this site. Thank you for your feedback, yes I would like to think my photography is worthy of comment and I do value help with anything that will help to improve my passion. I would like to change the settings so that others can make comment and vote etc. just not sure how I do that for this image?

Welcome from me too. If you like we can ask the site's management to remove the Critique setting for this - that will enable votes and awards but will probably reduce the scope for serious comment.

Meanwhile, the placement in the frame is particularly effective. But I wonder if you have replaced or significantly changed the background? The owl has a hard, dark outline. (Alternatively, that may have arisen from selecting the bird for localised processing).

It would be interesting to see the original frame, which you can add here as a modification.

And when you upload your next image, don't tick the box that says 'Critique wanted' - people can still comment, and will be able to vote and give awards.

Put a tick in the box if you are uploading a shot that you are having problems with or doubts about, and that will get a response.

And it's helpful, anyway, that you have filled in more on your 'About' page. Thank you.
