Looking into the night

By AntHolloway
First post in a while, taken whilst hosting a night photography evening with the local camera club.

The sunset didn't really play ball but at least there was some texture in the sky.

Three exposures were combined in Photomatix (ISO 100, f/6.3, 0.5s, 2s, 8s), with the 'remove moving objects' option ticked to remove ghosts due to the moving clouds.

I've put the 2s exposure on as image 3, then the output from Photomatix as image 2.

To produce the final image I've uses PSP X and duplicated the original image, run clarify on the duplicate to increase the contrast and set this layer to multiply at 30%. I used a black paintbrush at 20% opacity the darken down the overly bright grass in the lower left.

After merging these layers I've again duplicated the image, increased the saturation and masked out most of the image to just bring up the sunset colours.

After that a resize and unsharp mask before uploading.

Lovely low light exposure, great use of the wide angle.
