I think you are being over-critical, would never have occurred to me 'reject' the image for that.

I think you might be being a little hard on yourself!Tongue Nothing wrong with this, it is superb and a very easy UA choice for me.

The juxta position of the two towers creates the feeling of depth to the image, Adam. im my mind that highlights the pure scale of the image.
Nowt wrong with that Smile

The sea and the rocks in the foreground are what theimage ia about, the 'missing' bit of lighthouise is incodental becauseof the viewpoint that makes good use of the aforesaid foreground. Much more acceptable (not that this is unnacceptable) than just having a tip of the lighthouse showimng or even worse cropping the top off. If we had to include the base of a lighthouse we'd miss ouit on a whole host of very good (perhaps more pleasing, in some cases) images.

I probably wouldn't have thought of that, and it's how this image looks that matters. And it's good.

It would be a problem if we could almost-but-not-quite see the lighthouse, but it's more hidden than that. It forms a satisfying visual hook in the picture, so I'd say there's no problem.

Do i detect the remains of a scar inflicted by a club judge, or a similar semi-authority? If it looks right, it generally is.

And no - the images used in magazines are, on the whole, far less satisfactory than the ones that win their competitions!

It works for me - the crop is just a detail. I love the contrast of the warm light and the cold blue of the water.

I think its a great composition, the cropped view doesn't distract one bit and its a very pleasing seascape.

I couldn't possibly comment about images in Photography Magazines! I have two in AP this month I think!!
