The sea and the rocks in the foreground are what theimage ia about, the 'missing' bit of lighthouise is incodental becauseof the viewpoint that makes good use of the aforesaid foreground. Much more acceptable (not that this is unnacceptable) than just having a tip of the lighthouse showimng or even worse cropping the top off. If we had to include the base of a lighthouse we'd miss ouit on a whole host of very good (perhaps more pleasing, in some cases) images.

I probably wouldn't have thought of that, and it's how this image looks that matters. And it's good.
It would be a problem if we could almost-but-not-quite see the lighthouse, but it's more hidden than that. It forms a satisfying visual hook in the picture, so I'd say there's no problem.
Do i detect the remains of a scar inflicted by a club judge, or a similar semi-authority? If it looks right, it generally is.
And no - the images used in magazines are, on the whole, far less satisfactory than the ones that win their competitions!
