Lunch 70

By SimonFletch
Hello EPZ friends. My apologies for not saying 'goodbye' before dashing off on safari, but I had a bout of 'something awful' and was laid low, only summoning a return to health the day of leaving. We had a splendid 2 weeks away and I have many adventures to regale you with, along with some interesting images. These will follow after I return from Meru National Park on 20th March. In the meantime, a single upload, before I venture forth on some more travels.

We visited Olare Mara Kempinski Camp , on the outskirts of the Masai Mara National Park. Olare Orok is one of the new Conservancies on the outskirts of the Mara and previously lived on by Masai in their Manyattas (homesteads). Strict laws restrict the amount of safari camps, the amount of tents within each camp and even the type of vehicle used within the Conservancies. Further agreements restrict the amount of vehicles allowed around any animal, giving the wildlife a more comfortable and natural life than is experienced in the Masai Mara National Reserve - where I have seen as many as 20 vehicles 'boxing in' a predator cat trying to make a kill.

The camp is very comfortable and the staff are the most friendly professionals I have had the priveledge to be amongst. Our guide was knowledgeable, humerous and a great educator - for 14 days, each of 12 hours. There was no hesitation about taking 'picnic' breakfasts and lunches with us and, when the camp was low on occupancy, surprise kitchens were set up in the bush, giving us hot food as good as if they were in the camp - including tender, succulent steaks!

My upload is of one such 'Lunch', where we enjoyed magnificent scenery. Others were by Hippo pools, in forest areas (with a security guard keeping watch for us!). If anyone is considering a safari in Kenya, I have no hesitation in recommending Olare Mara Kempinski.

I shall now catch up with your recent uploads and look forward to being more a part of EPZ, later this month. My best wishes to all, Simon

What an amazing lunch menu, Simon, and a wonderful setting to enjoy it in. Glad to hear you had a great time, and no doubt have taken 100's if not 1,000's of images to delight us with on your return from your next travels. Carol

Oh how you have suffered deep in the heart of Africa, it must have been hellish having to live under such awful, barbaric conditions.Grin

A great spot for lunch Simon and an amazing menu. Kenya quite appeals to me now; if only there weren't snakes.
