Lunch is Served !!

By Maiwand
Great Crested Grebe ( and young) (podiceps cristatus)
The GCG is always a beautiful water bird to see. With their wonderful plumage colouring and with their superb diving and fishing ability they are one of the best sights on any lake or pond.
This one has just surfaced with a rather large fish which is quickly grabbed and swallowed (whole) by one of her attendant young. They are typical lazy kids who are quite prepared to just stay close to an adult rather than dive to collect their own meal. They are however just starting to carry out a few practise dives. I find the plumage colouring on the young to be very attractive. I look forward to watching them in the future.

As always my grateful and very appreciative thanks for all the c/c's on the Tawny Owl. Particular thanks to Jane (snappit) for her user award.

A wonderful natural history image Ron, you've captured the moment perfectly. Talking of lunch what has happened to our very own "lunchman" gentleman adventurer Simon Fletcher, hope he hasn't ended up as a lion, leopard or crocodiles lunch trying to capture framefilling images with his Canon 50mm f1.8 lens!Wink
