First is it Largs, You don't show what camera you have used but you have done a decent job. you should have moved more to the right to avoid the Railing in the left of the image you have captured the people well and have a great sky. Maybe lowering your self down maybe on your knees and between the railings would have given you a better angle. But overall you have done very well.

V1 is the strongest image, imho, Ian.

Firstly, I like the fact that it hasn't been over-processed.
It has life and a story, with the queue of travellers emanating from the bottom right corner, and striding along, so our eyes follow their path onto the boat. I like that angle of shooting very much. The touches of red are a real bonus, red always lifts an image.
The weather conditions are obvious, with the wet ground and reflections, and the brooding attractive clouds.

Those reflections are an attractive feature, and I can't help wishing you had given more space to them, a bit more canvas in the bottom right corner. At the time of shooting, you could have sacrificed a bit of sky to achieve a bit more foreground.
As has been said above, that bit of railing bottom left is a distraction and could be cloned out quite easily.
This is colourful, lively, well composed and attractive.

V2 has action and a nice reflection, but I wouldn't call it strong.

V3 has the least impact. I like the light in the middle area, and the complete reflection. You have placed your boat centrally in the frame, and it is likely to look better if positioned more to the left. Even though it is probably moored and not moving, that would give it space "to sail into" and give a more pleasing composition.

many thanks for crits comment and mod

Pameal has beaten me to this and pretty much covered all the points in the same way I would have done.

So I'll offer a suggestion for V2. I can see you wanted to show the vista and the eye is drawn to the approaching vessel but it's small in the frame and of similar size to the background elements, so waiting for it to approach would give something largerfor the eye to linger on and give a focal point.

It really depends on whats meant by strong, in an image.

I usually take it as something emotive, a feeling, a special moment, a mood or atmosphere, and of the three, there really is only one choice with that criteria, and that V3.

V1 is overdone in colour, contrast, post processing, and its strength, if you regard in your face colour as strength, is simply that.

V2 is a weak imge tonally and in composition.

V3 for me has that quality that speaks, and it speaks of tranquility, peace and calm. Its means something.

I have uploaded a mod with some tweaks, more contrast, and composition mainly.

Its a matter of personal opinion as you can see.

Which do you think is the strongest?

Without reading any of the previous comments; V3 for me, without a doubt.
I'd have to tweak the brightness and contrast, almost certainly using curves and I think that it could stand a little sharpening but otherwise, I'd leave it.
Those of you that know me, will know my views re. central, or otherwise, compositions.
Hope this helps.

Your processing has done you no favours again. V1 could be a fine shot, but the colours jar. V2, I fear, has little going for it at all, very flat and not much content. V3 has great potential, but the boat is too central. A more dynamic composition using, possibly, bottom left as a base, then a brightness boost.

Interesting that opinions differ on the processing of V1 - was it highly processed? Or was it one of those stunning Scottish days when the colours are like that?

Either way, I can quite accept that a good tweak to the saturation can make a shot look the way those days seem to be...

And I really like V3: maybe as it is, with the very central composition.

A couple of mods coming...

V2 has no impact at all for me Ian. And thats because I dont know the significance of a Glasgow river bus, not having ever been there. It shows how a sense of location, time and place can have impact, but only for those for whom it has significance.

For me, strength and impact are best when universally understood through the image, which gives V3 the edge.

But these are only opinions. Its what you find the strongest for you that will work.
