M'LIEN VILLAGE

By JN_CHATELAIN_PHOTOGRAPHY
The village of MíLien is a short distance by motorbike or an elephant ride from Lak Lake.

The countryside is very pleasant and green with some mountains on the horizon. I got there just on time to see the village busy with the children coming home from school and the cattle back for their pasture. Some people were practising their gong music for a festival so the place was echoing with strange sounds and great rythmns. A man went past riding an elephant. Wonderful!

The Ede minority people live in stilt houses grouped together in a village. These longhouses can reach up to 100m in length. The reason for the length of the houses is because they add an ďextensionĒ each time a daughter gets married, the newly wed couple lives with the wife's family.

Roughly a third of the living space is for communal use. The rest partitioned into smaller quarters to give privacy to married couples.

Iím very pleased with the interest in the photos about working in the rice fields. Thank you for your comments. I hope these common scenes of the daily life in the remote village of MíLien will also catch your interest

Have a nice day. Itís sunny here and I hope itís the same where youíre living,
