This does look somewhat better than the cropped version but it still suffers from the effect of the lamp post slap dividing the picture vertically. I assume this was taken from a motorway bridge and am wondering whether it might have been possible to lean out a bit to avoid getting the structure in your image?
Anyway, the photo looks just a little murky to me. In the mod I have uploaded for you, I have used the PS shadows/highlights tool to even up the lighting and the hue/saturation slider to increase saturation a little. Hope this is helpful.

the idea works of course even though ive seen it many times before, and here i like the way you managed to find a slight curve into the horizon. the trucks in a very favourable position too.
there are some niggles though, the street lighting is a major distraction and the only thing i can say there is that there are many motorway bridges without such light standards in the line of view.
the grad filter over the sky looks more than 0.6 or 2 stops to me and maybe it has given a bit too much tone into the sky so much that it looks a little darker than the road. i also feel the horizon is too central to achieve a good balance and that the road should take up about 2/3s of the frame vertically leaving a 1/3 narrower strip of sky.
would also have been good to use a slow speed and get some blur into the cars for effect.

There's nothing wrong with central images if the subject supports it, but I don't think that's the case here. In fact there are a few nigles I have with this image-
My mod illustrates most of the above (crop the sky, remove the lamppostand also lightens the image a bit as there was very little above 200/255 (that which there was I masked to preserve the detail).

There's nothing wrong with central images if the subject supports it, but I don't think that's the case here. In fact there are a few nigles I have with this image-
- I feel that all that sky is just - boring. It isn't really contributing to the image and worse, the brightest parts of the image are in the top part of the sky right at the edge of the frame, grabbing my attention.
- Your filtering of the sky is dramatic for sure, but it seems to have left a tell-tale halo along the horizon which should be addressed, and also the top half of the lamppost is strangely darker than the bottom half where it should have been masked out of the filter
- The sky is also now so dark that the road, which is illuminated from the sky, is brighter than the sky itself, which is not entirely believable.
- The lamp post is, as has been mentioned, very dominant and distracting- I feel you either need to shoot round it or clone it out.

Looking at it again I'd agree that I over darkened the sky, and the bright band on the horizon should be fixed.
As for the message/meaning, I drive this junction every day, and they re-built the footpath as part of the M1 roadworks, (there is even a crossing across one of the slip roads) but I have *never* seen anyone walking along there, so I wanted to show the view that very few people have bothered to go and look at ...
Taking on board your suggestions, I'll try to post one of the pictures from over the northbound carriageway which suffers less from the lamppost problem (there are a lot around the junction!) and try a less central crop ...
